Maybe the install program could ask whether to overwrite the existing
boot code or not?  We (well, this guy in Helsinki) installed NetBSD
1.3.3 on a 1.2 system about 5 times before I told him to wipe off the
first few MB's of the disk using dd (which helped, of course).
