Perhaps the NetBSD version of the X server could be ifdef-ed such that
the mouse spec in the XF86Config file is effectively ignored? (Maybe
with a warning printed out "Ignoring PS/2 mouse spec" or something
along those lines.)

Having the kernel provide a uniform interface is a very unix-like
thing to do...
