Hi, all.

I'm desperate to play Quake again, so I've reinstalled the Linux compat
library. However, the package install fails. It runs /emul/linux/sbin/ldconfig,
and that hangs.

I've got

options LINUX_GCC_SIGNATURE

in my kernel config, FWIW, and my kernel (1.3H) was built on the fourth day
of this month.

Anyway, killing that process allows the install to finish without further
complaint, but I'm having trouble getting Quake II to run. I can run just
about everything in the Linux bin directories except ldconfig. Also, FWIW,
Quake II dies with the following:

ref_soft version: SOFT 0.01
------------------------------------
CDAudio_Init: open of "/dev/cdrom" failed (2)
------- Loading gamei386.so -------********************
ERROR: failed to load game DLL
********************
Couldn't write config.cfg.
Error: Error during initialization

This is under X. Without X running, I get an error about an invalid ioctl,
I believe, relating to the console.

I know folks have run Quake II under NetBSD... *I* was running it not too
long ago. What I'm wondering is if it still works with the new Linux compat
stuff...?

Clues are appreciated. Clues that will let me run Quake II using SVGAlib
on my NetBSD box are particularly welcome. Details instructions that lead
to success will be rewarded with Cape Cod / Plymouth / Cape Cod Canal tourist
postcards. :P

PS: The Quake II binary I'm running comes from the archive:

quake2-3.19a-i386-unknown-linux2.0.tar.gz

Thanks in advance... :)
