I'll try to dig that one out of the mail archives.

Oh, I can boot from a floppy with no problems, and the boot code
on the floppy can boot from the partition on the IDE drive.  It
appears that it's only the first-stage boot loader which somehow
is messing things up for me (?).

Ok, I will have a closer look at what changes were done to the
boot code and to installboot between when my snapshot was made
and the now-current, and if there are any, make a new boot floppy
with an updated installboot and biosboot.sym.
