I seem to recall that you had something like that working a while ago;
whatever became of it?

FWIW, if we had a sysctl to set the interrupt mask, installing on the
Sony Vaio wouldn't have required a second machine to build install
floppies.  So I still consider this a reasonable solution for the problem
that it's trying to solve (initial install).
