Although my PAS board works (thanks to those recent changes just mentioned),
I find that it's annoyingly loud (to the point of distortion), yet when I
try to change the volume through software, it doesn't work:

jfwhome# audioctl -a
name=pas,16Basic
version=63
config=pas
encodings=ulinear:8,mulaw:8*,alaw:8*,slinear:8*
properties=mmap
full_duplex=0
blocksize=1024
hiwat=64
lowat=1
monitor_gain=0
mode=
play.rate=11111
play.channels=1
play.precision=8
play.encoding=ulinear_le
play.gain=127
play.balance=32
{ the rest omitted to avoid tedium }
jfwhome# audioctl -w play.gain=127
audioctl: set failed: Invalid argument

Does this currently work for anyone else, and if so, does anyone have
any suggestions for what I should look for to find out why it's broken
for me? The audioctl binary is freshly built.

Thanks,
John Woods,
