I became an ECC advocate after reading a memo that went out around BSDI about
memory failure rates.  Apparently, while there exist non-error-prone chips,
the chances of getting 64-128 MB of high-density, low-error memory are
basically nil, I think we were seeing several errors a day on some
particularly high-memory systems...  Of course, ECC corrects almost all of
them.
