Same problem, seagate 1gb ide disk boots fine on 486 but not on my cyrix
p200 
on a asus SP97V.
I just got a new bios from asus to test , will let you know later how it
works.
As a temporary workaround I had to boot from a scsi disk (with different
geometry than the one which is reported by the bios).

Must be a bios problem, I think.
