I've seem similar symptoms with nearly identical hardware (same
system, same ethernet..).. sometimes the hard drive doesn't come back
reliably.

I was running 1.2G with the jtk pcmcia patches for quite some time
without trouble; these failures started happening at the same time as
when I dropped the jtk patches and went to the mainline pcmcia
implementation.

i haven't had the spare cycles to reliably characterize the symptoms
of the bug, much less go digging in search of a fix..
