Well, this clarifies things somewhat. However, what I'd like to
see would be the ability to have a console that output to both the
vga and a serial port, and input from both the keyboard (if plugged
in) and the serial port. Is this possible?

If not, would it be possible at least to modify it to print out
the initial boot prompt to both the screen and the serial port,
and take as console whichever one it gets keyboard input from (with
a default should there be a timeout)?
