No, it will not.

Right. Better yet is to upgrade a non-production machine, anyway,
so you can play a bit and discover any potential problems. Then
use that to compile the new kernels. Install those, on the new
machines, and also install the new version under /bin.new, /sbin.new,
/usr.bin.new, etc. Then you can reboot into single-user mode with
the new kernel, rename directories, and go. Once you're convinced
you don't need to roll back, you can delete the old directories.
This does require an extra hundred meg or so of disk space, however.
