Hi. I've been trying to install NetBSD-1.2 on my Pentium-166 machine with
little success. It has an Adaptec AIC-7880 PCI UltraWide SCSI Controller,
an IBM DORS-32160 W !# 2063MB hard drive, a Generic NEC Floppy Disk Drive
and a Standard Floppy disk Controller. It reports a BIOS version 1.24
when it starts up.

I've downloaded all the binary sets and put them on 1.44MB floppies as the
installation instructions say. I've also gotten the kcapd12.fs and the
inst-12.fs disk images and used rawrite to write the images on two 1.44MB
floppies. I've also repartitioned my drive to give NetBSD some room.

The kcapd12.fs disk boots fine and asks me to "Insert file system floppy".
When I insert the inst-12.fs floppy the kernel comes up and even
recoginzes the DORS drive reporting its geometry and size (2063MB). The
install script asks if I want to continue and I do. When asked for my
disk geometry I enter 263 255 63 (cyls heads sectors), which is what
pfdisk under DOS reprots. I use cylinders to describe my partitions.
When asked for the size of my NetBSD partition and its offset I enter 132
cylinders and cylinder 20, respectively. My NetBSD is 132 cylinders in
size. I decided the following sizes in for the root, swap, /usr,
/usr/local, /home and /usr/sys partitions: 7, 7, 26, 53, 13 and 26
cylinders respectively. Below is my partition information reported by
pfdisk:

geometry 263 255 63 (cyls heads sectors)
# ID First(cyl) Last(cyl) Name # start, length (sectors)
1 6 0 19 DOSbi # 63, 321237
2 165 20 151 unkno # 321300, 2120580
3 5 152 262 DOSex # 2441880, 1783215
4 0 0 0 empty # 0, 0

My problem is that:

   1) NetBSD reports a different geometry than that reported by pfdisk
under DOS: pfdisk reports 263 255 63 (cyls heads sectors) and NetBSD
      reports 6703 5 126 (cyls heads sectors) (both have 512 bytes/sector)

   2) During the partition part of the installation (Once I enter
information about each partition) I get "Incorrect Super block"
erors on the partitions. The error messages look the following:

	Initializing /usr file system
With a block size of 16384 minimum bytes per inode is 5957
Minimum bytes per inode is 5957
With 16065 sectors per cylinder, minimum cylinders per group is 32
This requires the block size to be changed from 8192 to 16384
and the fragment size to be changed from 1024 to 4096
ffs: /dev/sd0e on /mnt/usr: incorrect super block

   3) I keep getting "/: write failed, file system is full" errors and
something about not being able to create symlinks.

Does anyone know what is going on? Any suggestions? Thanks.

Sincerely
Jose Alburquerque
