Could you provide details ?

o is it the X server or just the xterm which dumps core ?
o which XFree86 server are you running ? which version ?
o is XKB enabled ?
o which console driver do you use ?

Finally, servers in the XFree86 binary distributions are not
stripped. So you should be able to get a stack trace from the crash by
running the server as root.
