Yes, I've heard of people running NetBSD on Pentium Pros just fine.
If you're buying a motherboard brand new, however, be cautious and
make sure you don't get a board based on the Orion chipset.
Supposedly there's something broken in the bus implementation that
limits the PCI bandwidth to only ~5MB/s.

But, there is no reason for NetBSD *not* to work, unless you buy a
really brain-damaged motherboard.

RAID hardware support is being worked on, but the drivers will not
arrive in the near future.

What is commonly referred to as RAID-0, striped with no parity, is
supported by the ccd driver in software. Many people have been using
ccd reliably for some time. My entire /usr filesystem resides on a
two-drive ccd striped partition.

I'm not sure what other types of RAID are being planned for ccd.
Someone else who knows (Jason?) can fill in here.
