It turns out that sysctl requires a signed long integer as its argument for
kern.hostid.  This is very irritating for those who (a) don't happen to have
the 32-bit decimal number of their IP address memorized, and who (b) wouldn't
have bothered to memorize it as a negative number if it happens to not be a
class A address.  Grr.
