As a total aside, I was pleased to notice the new Intel 430HX chipset can
change the order of the floppy drives from the BIOS.  Trivial, perhaps,
but nice.  I changed my cables years ago -- it's easy enough to copy 1.2's
to 1.44's as long as they haven't done anything weird with the sector
layout.
