Hm,

this is beginning to look like the religious vi/emacs debates of
the past (did I say past? ;-).

This could of course be solved via yet another kernel compile
option (ok, there are too many already...).  Or perhaps via
sysctl?  Make it configurable and this debate will be moot.  The
kernel compile option obviously makes for the lesser amount of
kernel bloat.

My personal opinion is that the backspace key by default should
continue sending DEL.  (There are just too many places in emacs
which presupposes DEL to make it easy to switch, and besides, God
always intended for that particular key to send DEL, anyway! ;-)
