Hi,

today I tried to install NetBSD-1.1 on my pc.
I write tried, because I didn't suceed :-(

I have an AIC-6360 based scsi-hostadapter from Adaptec (1515 w/bios).
This card was jumpered for IRQ 11 portbase 0x340.

Other operating systems including L*nux run fine with this setting.

The install documents for 1.1 say, that NetBSD should run fine with
it as well.

While booting, the kernel spits out a message, saying, that it found
aic0 at IRQ 12, port 0x340. Hmm, this is the wrong IRQ. But the
kernel nevertheless continues to boot.
It finds all the disks (sd0, sd1, and a cd-writer, which is detected
several times because of LUN problems).
When I try to install NetBSD on sd0 it spits out a warning:

sd0(aic0:0:0): timed out
sd0(aic0:0:0): timed out AGAIN

Ok, I thought this might be because it thinks the controller is on the
wrong IRQ. Thus I changed the IRQ to 12, booted L*nux just to check if
it runs ok with this setting and it runs fine.

Booting NetBSD and going through the install again yields the same
result:

sd0(aic0:0:0): timed out
sd0(aic0:0:0): timed out AGAIN

This message appears first when it tries to write the disklabel, and
again and again every time it tries to write to the disk. (newfs, ...)

Anybody out there running NetBSD-1.1 on an aic6360 chip?

Btw., this is a fresh install, so I cannot build my onw kernel before
I get NetBSD installed.

I have quite some experience w/ Unix and w/ NetBSD on the Amiga, but
I don't know what to do/try?

Thanx in advance for any help.

  Guenther

P.S.: Besides the two hds and the cd-writer, I have only an ethernet-card
(which is recognized by the kernel as well) and an IDE-drive in the computer.
If you need more information, please mail me about it. If you need the
boot-screen from NetBSD, I can copy this as well, but I think it doesn't
provide more information then I did, not? :-)
