Wouldn't be possible just as a stop-gap to provide a kernel with the
bounce buffer patch ?
At least it will keep some from jumping to OpenBSD/FreeBSD/....

I have an 1542b, but only 8Mb :-(, so I wouldn't be able to test it.
The moment my wife can get convinced of the value of 8Mb++, i'll invest in it,
but will also check out the possibilities of upgrading the motherboard.
The performance of the 1542/ISA were Ok yesterday, but certainly not now,
considering the performance of recent disk's .It's all too easy maxing out
the bus with only 1 disk.
