In that case you wouldn't be able to use the disk from DOS at all. A sure
indicator is the "press Ctrl-A for SCSI-Select" message at boot.

I'd expect that this is rather a geometry translation problem - the 1542 and
the 2940 translate the SCSI LBAs differently to C/H/S and only the 2940's
translation is matched by the DOS boot block contents, or worse, its
position.
