openpty() failed in sysinst

Hello all,

I have a new HP C3700 to play with. I have it net booting using the instructions in the 10.1 hppa INSTALL doc. Nothing “bad” in boot messages, root and swap are mounted.

I run sysinst and when it gets to trying to run disklabel I get “openpty(): failed”

It looks to be pretty much the same as this person some years ago on sparc:

https://mail-index.netbsd.org/port-sparc/2013/08/20/msg001657.html

I have extracted base and etc sets on the NFS root for the machine. I have ran MAKEDEV all

Is there something else I could be missing or something else to look at ?

Worst case - is the “command line install” documented somewhere ? I.e. install to disk “the hard way” without sysinst ?

Thanks.
