src/BUILDING explains it all.  -a in the above example is redundant.

I use something like:

./build.sh -m hpcsh \
        -T /usr/nb/tools -R /usr/nb/release \
        -O /usr/nb/obj/hpcsh -D /usr/nb/distrib/hpcsh \
	release
