Hey all,

I just installed NetBSD/hpcmips on my MobilePro 800 the
other day for the hell of it on a 128MB CF card I convinced my boss to
buy me because I made him think I needed it to help maintain the
network. The LinkSys WPC11 v3 wireless card worked great, I'm using it
as a portable X and RDP terminal with no problems. GREAT job on the
hardware support BTW, no real screenblanking but everything else works
including X w/ touchscreen and USB mouse. I'm used to the funky boot
method because I ran NetBSD/mac68k for a long time in 1998 and it uses a
similar method to boot just w/ no touchscreen calibration. BTW, the
MobilePro's touchscreen kinda sucks, it's horribly inaccurate heh.

I was bored while migrating the old Win2K server to a new
Dual Xeon 2.8ghz monster we just built and I was looking at the junk
heap from the old server and noticed a USB ZIP 250. I thought "nah, it
won't work, the kernel probably won't support it or it'll suck too much
power from the USB port". So I said screw it and plugged it into the
MobilePro running NetBSD. It worked like a charm, it came up and said
it found a USB<->SCSI adapter and sd0 was a USB ZIP 250.  I think I
finally found a cheap-ass power-hungry storage system for the mobilepro
without having to buy a MicroDrive or really expensive 512mb CF card.

I know I know, I should get a real laptop.. But I'm poor and already
have a mobilepro. I might make a slightly bigger battery pack out of
NiMH AA or C cells and plug it into the power supply plug if I get
really bored. Is there any patches for screenblanking on the MobilePro
800 yet? No pressure, just curious..
