I left w3m compiling overnight natively on the Jornada 720. It's still chugging along on vrious w3m depedencies but pkg_info indicates that perl was succesfully installed sometime last night. Its from the 2017Q2 Pkgsrc sources. So it is possible to build perl on the Jornada.
