When you set up your slices with disklabel, did you set the number of
partitions to 8. In 1.6 the hpcarm port has a limitation of 8 slices per
partition (i386 defaults to 16). Here's how to check:

bash-2.05# disklabel -i /dev/sd0
partition> I
# Current values:
# /dev/sd0d:
type: unknown
disk: 780
label:
flags:
bytes/sector: 512
sectors/track: 32
tracks/cylinder: 16
sectors/cylinder: 512
cylinders: 978
total sectors: 500736
rpm: 3600
interleave: 1
trackskew: 0
cylinderskew: 0
headswitch: 0 # microseconds
track-to-track seek: 0 # microseconds
drivedata: 0

Disk type [?] [unknown]:
Disk name [780]:
Label name []:
Number of partitions [8]:
                      ^
                      ^
If this is 16, you should try changing it to 8.
