To find out one 745 is'nt so frequent.
But I'm quite surprised you have to consult the pdf manual to deduce it was a 745.
Usually, the model number is clearly visible on the front panel, this is recalled beside the serial number on the rear panel of the box. But anyway ...
To obtain a display on a screen with an HP 9000/7xx workstation, there are few specific conditions (the following list is'nt limitative)
  
	1. First: It is strongly recommanded to have an HPIL Keyboard for the suite (*)
	(For the configuration, I do not know if a PS2 Keyboard -with RS232 adapter- works).
	I can't help you for that.
	2. Is your monitor Sync. on Green or Separate Sync. compatible ?
	(recommanded resolution: 1280x1024) for example: the HP2094A.
	(IMPORTANT WARNING: Because for the most part of the PC's monitors does'nt fit
	and can cause damages (Be CAREFULL: the VGA connector is misleading), only the 
	monitors mentionned above, have to be pluged into the built-in graphics connector.

	3. Is your Graphics Card configured with the resolution and size of the monitor ?
	(According to the type of monitor: 17" or 19", Color or Grayscale, you have to
	set the switches in the specific positions (see owner's manual, for details)
	4. Are the BOOT-ROM's Graphics parameters correctly specified ?
	For that:
	Press "Tab" Key (*) at Power On, after the keyboard's LED flashs during the boot
	process to initiate the automatic monitor selection process. Then, the system will
	query you for the monitor type. You have to press "Return" Key to confirm your 
	selection.

With a graphics console, everything becomes easier ...
