This is from the OpenBSD HP300 FAQ:

Note that the 425e does not support serial console setup in the ROM.
However, since the 425e's SGC graphics are not supported by OpenBSD, the
serial console (on apci0) is the only possibility and so no ROM setting is
required. 

If the frambuffer is a DIO-II device I have a few spare supported FB's.
