This would be a mistake.  In particular, unless you can guarantee
that the device names won't change under probe order changes in
the new code, the device names should change over when the code
does.

From FreeBSD experience, you will end up with the device names
changing once for the namespace, and then again one or two times
as the probe/attach stuff changes, and this is a really, really
bad thing.
