Here are some errors I saw when booting inside VMWare:

Warning: no /dev/console
init: Creating mfs /dev

mount: /: unknown special file or file system
cd can't cd to /var/run
Copying /altvar -> /var
umount: /dev/device busy
Creating /dev...

I can log in, but nothing seems to be running.

Networking seems to work fine.  Is there a script somewhere on the disk
that starts everything up?
