Hi everyone,

I'm new to this list and to the whole cobalt and mips world so please
allow me to describe two problems I have and on which I couldn't find
anything in the archives. The machine in question is a Raq2.

1. When booting without "root on wd0a type ffs" in the kernels
config-file, the machine panics with the following messages:

# root on wd0a dumps on wd0b
# root file system type: ext2fs
# warning: lookup /dev/console: error 20
# exec /sbin/init: error 20
# exec /sbin/oinit: error 20
# exec /sbin/init.bak: error 20
# init: not found
# panic: no init

Why does it detect an ext2fs on wd0a and not ffs? The disklabel looks
like this:

# # /dev/rwd0d:
# type: ESDI
# disk: QUANTUM FIREBALL
# label: fictitious
# flags:
# bytes/sector: 512
# sectors/track: 63
# tracks/cylinder: 16
# sectors/cylinder: 1008
# cylinders: 16383
# total sectors: 16514064
# rpm: 3600
# interleave: 1
# trackskew: 0
# cylinderskew: 0
# headswitch: 0 # microseconds
# track-to-track seek: 0 # microseconds
# drivedata: 0

# e: 1024127 1 Linux Ext2 0 0 # (Cyl. 0*- 1015)
# f: 410256 1287216 Linux Ext2 0 0 # (Cyl. 1277 - 1683)
# g: 14685520 1828544 4.2BSD 1024 8192 16 # (Cyl. 1814*- 16382)

2. What do I need in order to compile a -current kernel? I checked out
yesterdays -current syssrc and made a new /usr/sbin/config but when
doing a "make depend" I get the following:

# depending the kern library objects
# no ARCHSUBDIR for mipsel nor
# *** Error code 1
#
# Stop.
# *** Error code 1
#
# Stop.

What am I missing here?

Besides those two little problems, the machine runs very nicely
(1.5.3_ALPHA kernel, 1.5.2 userland)...thanks to hubertf for
publishing the FAQ :)

Thanks a lot,
 Oliver
