no, freebsd's nfsd will load the nfs kernel module if it does not detect
support.

by the way, my nfsd logs have shown me that the kernel that Ted shared (for
the qube2) should be called
(nfsroot) /boot/vmlinux_raq-2800.gz

Ted's howto shows vmlinux_raq2800.gz from memory, could be my qube though...

i am still studying my tcpdump logs, which now have the actual files that
nfs cannot find for the qube...
