This is ok. 'drive offline' for a drive with removable media means that no
medium is inserted.

I had the 'illegal request ...' line too some time ago when I tried to boot an
1.2 kernel on my TT with a ZIP drive. It vanished when I switched to 1.2D (and
later 1.2E). Maybe an entry in the /etc/disktab file for the JAZ drive is
all you need.
