I don't know about the serial-mouse. What might be interesting to you
is that I added support for the atari-mouse in NetBSD about 2 weeks
ago. It also emulates the middle button, by pressing both buttons
at -nearly- the same time. I just needed it for X11 to get going. This
is quite unworkable with 2 buttons ;-)
