Hm. Did anything of this change between 1.4.1 and 1.4.2?

[While this would explain the hangs on my diskless boxen at work, it doesn't
explain why some of them run rock solid... besides, I think I tried DMAless
Ethernet back then, and it didn't work either.]

To exclude Ethernet lossage, I made sure to test with a local pkgsrc.tar.
1.4.1 runs fine, 1.4.2 has same problem. Unfortunately, when the freeze
happens, CTRL-ALT-ESC doesn't work.
