I believe it's used to build install kernels.  It's the memory file system
in the install kernel.  But I used it make a really nice install zip disk 
for Sharks.  I just used vnconfig to prepare it for mount and tarred it to
the zip.  With the sd0 kernel, it installs to an internal disk very well.
It makes a nice fix it "floppy" as well.
