Hi there.

On May the 22nd I downloaded the then current v1.4 NetBSD and
installed it, i.e. I upgraded my v1.3.2 to v1.4. Allthough I did
get it to work, it was never really useful because of the
following problems.

1) I could only get X11 to work, if I did not install the X11fonts.
When I tried to start X11 using xinit, I got the following errors
(with X11fonts installed):

The next problems occurred when I ran X11 without X11fonts installed.

2) My Netscape v??? (aka. Mozilla Navigator Cryptozilla) starts but it
will not redraw anything leaving it useless.

3) My xemacs-19.15 starts but never dumps and never draws any windows
leaving me without any nice mailer.

Because of the above problems I have been almost without any internet
connection and since then most of the time I have been struggling to
restore my system to a useable condition (v1.3a) and is almost there.

My final unsolved problem is that only root can run xemacs-19.15 now,
so I had to 'chmod u+s' the binary in order to run it as an ordinary
user. This has the disadvantage, that all files written from xemacs
has owner-id root.

I was wondering if I should have another go at v1.4, or wait for
a more useable version. Maybe someone can help me to decide by
answering some (all?) of the following questions.

Has the binaries changed since then? Should I download a new set?

How can I avoid the error 1?

Does Netscape/Cryptozilla work under v1.4 or has someone build a
new working version?

Does anybody know how to avoid problem 3?
And does anybody know how to get xemacs work under v1.3a without
'chmod u+s' its binary?
