Yes - I frequently get something very similar, and interestingly, on
totally different hardware.

I have a CATS system, I use the "unsupported" XF86_S3V X server which
Chaltech supplied with the system. Assuming it is the same effect (and it
sounds very familiar to me) then perhaps it is something up with the ARM32
port of XFree86, rather than the Shark hardware?
