Thanks for that, will help me prevent blisters ... and typos.

I have reinstalled the x sets again and fiddled^H^H^H^H^H^H^H
carefully alternated with and without
the symlink from /usr/X11R6.3 to /usr/X11R6 at differnent stages of
the unarchiving (always before unpacking xarm33.tar.gz at in the VERY
IMPORTANT note).

- I noticed that there was no X symlink in /usr/X11R6.3/bin
so I created one to point to the Xarm-33 file.

I am getting a flash of the start up
banner (looks nice) and then errors and back to the console.

Couldn't open RGB_DB '/usr/X11R6.3/lib/X11/rgb'

Now /usr/X11R6.3/lib/X11/rgb does not exist
and as a matter of interest is not in xserver.tar either
I did find a rgb.txt file in /usr/X11R6.3/lib/X11/rgb.txt
and even if I make a link of that to rgb or copy it into rgb
I get the same crash.

The fonts are definitely there

I have been looking at the man pages on xinit and the startup
script in /usr/X11R6.3/lib/xinit/xinitrc
It seems to be looking for some files from /usr/X11R6.3/lib/xinit/
that dont seem to be there, the only one in my set up is the xinitrc
file.

Thanks for all the help so far, I will be happy to post a summary
for reference to by any other dense types (like myself) who cannot get
it working.
