Try something like this (yes, I did test it on one of the Sharks, it looks
like there is a deliberate place to patch for just this application :-)):

Put the following in the 'nvramrc' script:

patch exit fa0 install-console

(Information on how to enter this can be found on
http://www.research.digital.com/SRC/iag/info/DNARDfix/firmware.html)

This should allow the disconnection of the keyboard and still allow the
firmware to write to the screen.

Note that the standard kernel will still talk to the serial line and
not to the screen :-(.

Also note that I don't take responsibility if you hose your machine :-).
