Setting up the hostname is the first step and is correct.
Since you are a fellow demon user I have all the necessary scripts to
actually provide the TCP/IP connectivity using ppp which I will be
placing on my website http://www.black-star.demon.co.uk/ this weekend. I
will also add some instructions on how to set them up for demon. These
scripts should be quite easily adaptable to many ISP's. With this
connectivity RiscBSD will support Web Browsing and FTP without any
further configuration.
Configuration of services like mail and news is a bigger issue. Running
sendmail with the flags -bd will make your RiscBSD box receive mail for
any users that you have set up and the default configuration will also
correctly send mail using SMTP.
For news you will need to look into a system such as inn, leafnode or an
on line newsreader like slrn.
