AFAICR, the Cumana with the dodgy board differs sufficiently from the
ATAPI spec to be unsupported by current kernels. There was a brief murmur
about this some months ago, and someone (Olly?) came forward with one for
'those who can' to write a driver with, but nothing much has been heard
since.
Mine doesn't work either, except from RiscOS, though it does allow the
machine to boot into RiscBSD cleanly.

Create the RiscBSD partitions on your HD using an install floppy as
normal; then copy the sets under RiscOS from the CD to a BSD partition
(chmod o+rwx on the destination directory, first), then point the
installer (/usr/local/sbin/rcm) to the right place, and go for it.
Best,
Dan.
