You have the file name slightly wrong - it should be resolv.conf - missing
the 'e'. Mine looks like...

for mouse.chem.ed.ac.uk, using the 3 nameservers mentioned.

/usr/local/sbin/rcm is in the config set - can you confirm that you've
installed this at some stage (also useful for adding users, and setting
up X, and other things...) ?
