You could try getting a Eurocheque book from your bank.

You can write cheques in nearly any european currency, for up to about
150 UKP or the equivalent I think. And they can be cashed or used ann
over Europe.

Mine costs me 7.50 UKP per year plus about 1% on top of every cheque.
