However, how is it meant to work?

setvideo -x1024 -y768

produces the message:

mode ioctl called

and then returns, doing nothing else. Am I missing someting obvious?

Ah hang on, it does use the new mode when I start X. However, can I
change the mode that the other terminals run in?
