  set the terminal type to vt220. (I think the default of vt100
does as you describe).

  If you did so did I.  IIRC Rob posted that the code had been disabled 
in Xarm18A but reenabled in a later version. Unfortunately that new 
version doesn't seem to have made it online anywhere.
