Allwinner display

Is there anything for a user to modify in the Allwinner display
drivers ?

With a Cubietruck connected to a display by HDMI about 8 characters
are cropped from the LHS. The correct screen size is detected and
it looks to be running at this resolution.

If I try running X11 the display flashes then the X server exits, there
are no error messages in Xorg.0.log.
