And now (thanks to help from Jared) it is kind of "finished".

The driver does not (yet) make use of advanced features of the core,
but it seems to be stable und usable. I intend to get back to this
later and enhance it, but there are more urgent issues to solve -
for extra testing, I am running the board in big endian mode and this
is a constant stream of new bugs (you may have noticed a few PRs already).
