Subject: severe performance problems - 4-core Opteron 270

This is the system I've been struggling to get booted. I now have it running
with one CPU, but not yet with four.

"Running" is a relative term - more like "crawling". Start anything, like a
compile, and it goes to 100% sys. It really feels as if system calls are taking
forever.

lmbench confirms that the system is slow - it computes the CPU clock speed as
42MHz! gettimeofday() takes 12 usec...

I notice that systat vmstat tells me that there have been no TLB interrupts
since system boot. That seems ... impossible. The VM subsystem seems to be
working - I can run my mmap tester and map more than 100 TB.

myrtle# vmstat -H

I tried to file a PR about this, but haven't yet received an ack or a bounce :-(

Here's a recent dmesg (seems that I am missing a little RAM, gotta go check
those settings again)

because I could, and just to prove that the hardware isn't busted, I booted
