You are quite right, the Live! CD package from pkgsrc only works
on i386.  Though you could make an i386 Live! CD and boot it on
an AM64, I think.  I know that 1.6 i386 install CDs work.  (^&

I should have checked this before suggesting it.  (I never used
the Live! CD package and just assumed that it would create a CD
for any NetBSD box that could boot from CD.)
