port-amd64: Stable release

Hi,

I would like like to have a rough estimate when this Port (amd64) will be a
stable release? I want to build a PC for my Brother, to enable him to
research Mechanical Engineering Tools as an alternate to MATLAB. I suspect
the AMD64 platform may offer superior performance.
